The Secrets & Lies conference has come to a close for another year, and we hope you had a wonderful and rewarding experience.
Sadly, since the conference where many of you will have met Anne Ramon, our Secretary, it is with deep shock and sadness that I must share the news that Anne passed away last Tuesday after a short illness.
Anne was a dedicated and much-loved member of our community. Beyond her work with us, she was actively involved in several genealogical societies and volunteered extensively — including at The National Archives (most recently on the American War of Independence – Prize Papers Project), as a Friend of TNA, and at the London Archives. She was also deeply engaged with the East Surrey Family History Society, the London Topographical Society, the Maldens & Coombe Heritage Society, and the Charles Close Society.
Anne’s warmth, knowledge, and tireless enthusiasm will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Her passing also reminds us how important it is to have committed Trustees to help continue the work Anne cared about so deeply. Without a dedicated team, events like the Secrets & Lies conference simply wouldn’t be possible.
If you would like to get involved and join the Trustees, please do consider reaching out. It’s not an onerous role — in most years, we hold just three meetings (two via Zoom and one in person, usually at the Society of Genealogists meeting room in London). If you’re interested, please email Alec Tritton at chairman@halsted.org.uk
