Every year, The Halsted Trust holds an educational seminar on one-name studies. This year the seminar is aimed at those beyond the first flush of research and who are looking to extend their research. It will be of interest to all family historians and specifically those looking to extend or start a one-name study. There will be a charge for this seminar of £20.00 per person which will include a buffet lunch and refreshments.
In the morning, John Hanson FSG will explore what is already being done in this field as well as the benefits and pitfalls of doing a one-name or one-place study and whether in fact they can be an asset or a hindrance, whereas Alec Tritton will be looking at Quarter Session records and the wealth of information contained in them about our ancestors.
After lunch Celia Heritage looks at problems and issues that arise when researching before 1837 such as the lack of detail in parish registers/missing registers, lack of other ‘regular sources’ and problems caused by migration and Dr. Geoff Swinfield FSG will discuss which parts of the genetic material and its inherited variation can be used to aid your genealogical research and what you can & can’t learn from these DNA tests.
